“The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15.
Sept. 15 was chosen as the starting point for Hispanic Heritage Month because it is the anniversary of the Cry of Dolores or “Grito de Dolores,” according to Carlos Olave, head of the Hispanic Reading Room at the Library of Congress.
Carlos, is a Chicano artist and community activist recognized for his visual art creations that are found in public and private collections throughout the world. In 1977 he created the original drawings of one of the world’s most iconic logo of our time, that of the Apple Logo.
