Sometimes life is hectic or routine and cause us to get stuck in a rut, where we cook the same old same old, or order from restaurants because we get too tired to cook. Cooking Nom Nom Paleo meals has reminded me of how fun cooking is for my family. My Nom Nom Paleo experience consisted of cooking from the Nom Nom Paleo: Food For Humans book, which has been a fun experience.
Where To Get What You Need
Cooking from the Nom Nom book requires a lot of ingredients that I normally don’t stock. I have always shopped at Safeway, Lucky’s, Trader Joe’s grocery stores and even a local 99 Cent Store that offers some fresh produce. Out of these stores, I found that Safeway has most of the recipe ingredients but Whole Foods seems to carry all of the ingredients and shopping there is a treat for me as it’s an enjoyable experience. The meals are easy to cook and the only drawback is that I cannot go to my neighborhood grocery store and buy the required ingredients (Whole Foods is a bit of a drive).
The Transformation
My pantry is going through a transformation, with items such as kelp noodles instead of ramen noodles, and also stocking coconut aminos, coconut oil, and cocoa nibs. The base ingredients of the Nom Nom diet goes back to the way my mom and grandma cooked Indian foods, which is with natural base oils and Indian butter such as Ghee; I grew up eating these delicious and healthy meals that they made fresh. My grandma even had a cow in her backyard in India from which the butter was made. My grandfather use to say ” don’t take my butter away. If you die eating butter its okay”. It’s a good thing for him because he walked several miles everyday. Regarding the oils, I used to put coconut oil in my hair to keep it shiny and now I am cooking with that coconut oil (instead of olive oil).
Some examples of things I have made from the Nom Nom Paleo book and the family has enjoyed eating are:
- Paleo Mayonaise
- Paleo sriracha sauce (p. 42)
- Smashed Steak Skewers + Cherry Barbecue Sauce (p. 222 – 223)
- Soups we ate were a hit in my family. In particular one soup I cooked tasted like dhal (lentil soup) but did not consist of lentils.
Nom Nom Paleo food is easy to make but a little expensive to cook because of there is a lot of meat and new ingredients. I highly recommend it! I give the Nom Nom Paleo a 5 star rating because it has been fun to cook, the meals look good and tastes good, and the recipes are for a family of 4 (or at least my 4). So far, my kids enjoyed it and finish their meals – No leftovers!
