Rihanna on her unique pregnancy style: ‘When you look good, you feel good’

By Raven Smith From Vogue

Just when you thought maternity style was all dungarees and Breton stripes, Rihanna, the patron saint of memorable looks, entered the chat in a vintage Chanelpink puffer and bejeweled belly chains. Ever since the makeup mogul announced her pregnancy with A$AP Rocky, her maternity wear has been the talk of the town (by town I mean Twitter). People (by people I mean Twitter) have been falling over themselves to critique the appropriateness of her choices as an expectant mother: too short, too sheer, too brief.

Before we get into the reactions, can we please take a moment for the kaleidoscopic wardrobe she’s sported since the announcement? First was the actual reveal, much like a YouTuber’s unboxing vid. Bang at the end of January, Rihanna showcased her belly striding through Harlem in a coat as pink as the hallucinogenic elephants in Fantasia and an Isabella Rossellini in Death Becomes Her belly chain, the cuffs of her jeans dragging impractically on the floor. (It’s worth mentioning here that all of RiRi’s looks denounce practicality. I’ve yet to see a sensible shoe or bag.)

aultier cardigan that crisscrossed her bump and an apricot leather minidress that felt naked in the right way. All of this is fantastic.

The Gucci show saw Rihanna looking like a gentle Victorian dominatrix, all PVC and lace and crop top. The sheer black baby doll dress at yesterday’s Dior show was giving Morticia Addams beach cover-up in a good way, a sort of gothic Playboy bunny. And who among us isn’t deliberately mismanaging their time so they can say, “No shit” like Rihanna did after being told she was late for the show?
