Remembering Dr. Jaswinder Singh Bhalla

Jaswinder Singh Bhalla, the celebrated Punjabi actor and comedian.A professor at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Bhalla was known for his humorous satire in series like Chhankata and films such as Carry on Jatta. His unique comic timing, memorable catchphrases, and ability to blend humour with agricultural awareness and social commentary left an indelible mark on Punjabi culture.

    Bhalla began his career as an agricultural expert, earning a PhD from CCS University, Meerut. He joined PAU in 1989, eventually becoming a professor and head of the Department of Extension Education, where he retired in May 2020 after serving more than three decades. He used creative methods, such as audio-visual campaigns, to educate farmers and rural youth on various agricultural topics, making him a respected figure in the field.

    Bhalla transitioned to a popular entertainer, known for his satirical comedy and wit in the Chhankata series and films like Carry on Jatta and Jatt & Juliet. His role as Advocate Dhillon in Carry on Jatta was particularly iconic, with lines becoming widely popular.
