Introduction

Designs for Health has been around for nearly thirty years. In that time, they’ve gone from a nutritional and dietary consultant group to a full-fledged manufacturer of practitioner-channel nutritional products. DFH products range from those targeting specific nutritional concerns such as their Paleo Diet friendly products and medical foods to their products suitable for nearly anyone such as single and multivitamin supplements.  Their products are trusted by health providers around the world to deliver the purity and potency required for clinical strength results. Their quality control standards make them one of the worlds best vitamin brands, hands down.

Quality Control

Designs for Health exemplify the difference between practitioner channel supplements and regular consumer brands. Their quality control is both rigorous and transparent, helping not only inform practitioners and patients but also to build trust. Designs for Health verifies a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for each raw ingredient, utilizes third-party verification of product purity, and does extensive post-production testing as well.

NSF Certification

Designs for Health maintains their own manufacturing facility that is an NSF-Certified GMP facility. This characterizes manufacturers that are insistent on building trust among consumers. In addition, the DFH manufacturing facility in Nevada is also NSF Certified for Sport. This ensures that any products in the lineup labeled as such are free of any traces of substances banned from athletic competition. This ensures that professional athletes are able to use their vitamins and supplements with confidence.

Vendor Auditing

Supplement manufacturers often contract out parts of their products. In fact, most store brands contract out their entire operations. Designs for Health minimizes the risks associated with such practices by asserting that every sub-contractor in their network meets one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Natural Products Association (NPA)
  • National Sanitary Foundation (NSF)
  • Over the Counter Drug GMP (OTC)
  • FDA cGMP Compliance

Scientific Advisory Board

Selling supplements is one thing but formulating them is quite another. Designs for Health have several health professionals that serve as full-time members of their operations. They also maintain a scientific advisory board of nearly a dozen qualified medical professionals. This conglomerate of academic and practical know-how goes into every product they have. When you by Design for Health supplements you aren’t buying from a company that “formulated” their products by reading articles online; you’re buying a product of extensive academic and professional experience.

Supplements

Designs for Health offer a wide range of supplements. If you’re looking for the best multivitamin options, best Vitamin D supplement, or maybe even the best protein powder money can buy; they can oblige. In our opinion, these are obligatory offerings from any major nutrition company and not what we want to focus on. Designs for Health is regarded by many as “The Paleo Company” for their strong focus on nutritional support of the paleolithic diet. We’d like to share some of the products in their catalog that we feel are good examples of how they earned and continue to retain this title.

PaleoZyme™

PaleoZyme™ is an enzyme blend designed to help support the digestion of fats, carbs, and proteins found in a typical Paleo Diet. This supplement contains lipase, protease, and amylase (the big three) as well as bromelain and oxbile. To help aid in digestive support, each capsule features an enteric coating to make it through stomach acid and into the digestive tract. Just like the Paleo Diet is designed based on foods found in their natural forms, so do does the enteric coating on the PaleoZyme™ tablets put the enzymes near the pancreatic region–where they are naturally released!

VegeCleanse Plus

Among the many incredible products offered by Designs for Health are their “program kit” packages. These formulations offer targeted nutritive support for detoxes and healthy weight loss. The VegeCleanse Plus package, formerly the PaleoCleanse Plus, has a plethora of micronutrients, minerals, vitamins, and amino acids designed to support the bodies natural detoxification pathways and antioxidant systems. This 14-day cleanse is what many store-brand products are marketed as. As with everything; you get what you pay for.

Arthroben®

Arthroben® is from the “Medical Foods” line of DFH products and offers an isolated form of collagen peptides, baicalin extract from the skullcap herb, and acai berry extract. This formulation is designed to offer nutritional support for the management of osteoarthritis. These types of isolate blends are often the only non-pharmaceutical option for those suffering from food intolerances, allergies, or sensitivities. This supplement is designed from the ground up to provide antioxidant support and help maintain healthy joint tissue. Arthroben® serves as a stellar example of the cognizance that goes into formulating each of Design for Health’s products.

Personal Experience
My first experience with Designs for Health was with their GI Revive product. I found it to be the highest-quality product of its type that I’d ever come across. Many companies regard products with fiber in them as an excuse to load up on fillers like cellulose. Not Designs for Health.

Where to Buy

Design for Health’s products are not available in stores such as the Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, or grocers such as Whole Foods. Most health food stores also do not carry DFH products either. Design for Health’s supplements are available for purchase directly from licensed health professionals such as nutritionists, dieticians, and doctors of many types. Additionally, these types of professionals can give you a patient code which can be used to order directly from the Designs for Health website. Fortunately, DFH products are also available from select authorized retailers like PureFormulas and are also available directly through Amazon.

Overall Impressions

Designs for Health is a tremendous company with a stellar track record for their powerful nutritional formulations. They are trusted by health professionals to meet the needs of patients around the world. Their dedication to quality and potency are but a few of the many characteristics of this company we love. You’ll find their products are more expensive than store brand alternatives but of an incomparably higher quality. We’d recommend this brand to anyone but especially those interested in finding Paleo-friendly products. Our only criticism is that their products are a bit expensive, even for practitioner channel supplements.
