Kim Kardashian Was Concerned About Reaching 120 Lbs Amid Weight Loss for Met Gala: ‘Tripping Me Up’
Getting results. Kim Kardashian offered a candid look at the ups and downs of her weight loss journey for the 2022 Met Gala.
“So, I am down to 118 [pounds] again. I got up to 120 [pounds] which was tripping me out,” the reality star, 42, revealed to her personal trainer during a new episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians, which premiered on Thursday, November 10.
In a confessional, Kim broke down her workout approach in order to reach her target weight. “So, I fit into the dress, but I am not going to stop working out. I got this sauna suit and I put it on and it makes you sweat — even if it is water weight it will help,” she explained ahead of the May event.
As cameras were rolling on season 2, the Skims founder made headlines for her appearance in the vintage Bob Mackie gown during fashion’s biggest night. “It was this or nothing,” the TV personality told Vogue that same month, referring to the dress previously worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962. “I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict.”
One month later, Kim slammed critics who questioned her decision to lose 16 pounds in three weeks. “It was just important to me to reach that goal,” she explained in an interview with The New York Times. “I just simply couldn’t have gone [if I didn’t loss the weight], which wouldn’t have mattered.”
The businesswoman added: “To me it was like, ‘OK, Christian Bale can do it for a movie role and that is acceptable.’ Even Renée Zellweger gained weight for a role. It’s all the same to me. I wasn’t saying, ‘Hey everyone, why don’t you go lose this weight in a short period of time?
At the time, Kim revealed that she was “down 21 pounds” since preparing for the New York event. “It taught me a lot about my lifestyle and my health,” she said on the Today show about her original weight-loss plan. “Since then, afterward, I continued to eat really healthy. I’m not trying to lose any more weight, but I have more energy than ever. I cut out so much sugar, a lot of junk food I was eating … I just completely changed my lifestyle.”
The aspiring attorney also called out claims that she damaged the iconic gown after wearing it. “It was such a process. I showed up to the red carpet in a robe and slippers and I put the dress on at the bottom of the carpet, went up the stairs,” she continued. “I probably had it on for three minutes, four minutes, and then I changed at the top of the stairs. Ripley’s [and I] worked together so well. There were handlers and gloves that put it on me.”
In a statement released that same month, Ripley’s addressed the controversy, saying: “Kim Kardashian wearing the ‘Happy Birthday’ dress has been hotly contested, but the fact remains that she did not, in any way, damage the garment in the short amount of time it was worn at the Met Gala.”

A Change of Heart
“I flew all the way to Florida to try on the Marilyn dress. They were not going to let me wear this dress, they were not even going to let me try it on until Kris Jenner calls,” Kim told the cameras. “And I was like, ‘Please mom if you let this happen, I will marry you.’ I would have done anything.”
She added: “I was there screaming to her on the phone going, ‘I will pay for it. I will fly to Florida and do an appearance at Ripley’s.’ And she is just like, ‘Shut up.’ She kept muting them [to tell me to shut up].”

The Offscreen Decision
During the episode, the producers behind the scenes asked Kris, 67, what she told Ripley’s that changed their minds. “I cannot tell you my secrets but if somebody says no, you know what I say? ‘You are talking to the wrong person,'” the momager teased.

1 Last Try
“I have honestly been working my ass off to see my vision come to life. I will be crushed if this doesn’t pay off,” Kim admitted. “It is hard because you can’t shimmy into this dress the way that I really would. That is the difficult part — it just has to glide up.”
While at the museum, celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton helped the Hulu personality fit into the dress. “[He] was like, ‘We didn’t fly all the way over here for nothing.’ He lifted up my butt in my Skims and repositioned my shapewear and then it went up,” Kim shared, while footage showed them deciding to use a tie to hold the dress up in the back.

Putting In the Work
Viewers got a glimpse of Kim’s workout regime which included the treadmill and a stair master.
“When I thought to go in Marilyn Monroe’s dress — and I know how precious and fragile the dress is — I knew I had to lose at least ten pounds for it to even go up on me,” she detailed. “This is exhausting but it feels like a movie role. How an actor will lose weight for roles — this feels like my role is Marilyn Monroe. I am determined.”

Changing Her Appearance
According to the Selfish author, the process of dyeing her hair took more than 15 hours.
“I didn’t get a lot of sleep because we had to pull an all-nighter to dye my hair blonde,” she revealed. “This hair dyeing process is so tedious and annoying. We don’t have a shampoo bowl, so we have to rinse it a million times. It is what it is.”
Kim continued: “It has to be the right color [and] my hair can’t fall out. We have to get it right because we have one day to dye it, so we are going to be up for the next 15 hours just dyeing it.”
Her hairstylist also weighed in on his client’s “dedication” to her vision. “At the minute it is half black, half blonde. The last time we took a week to do the color and now we have two days to do it,” he noted. “[Kim] is ready to sit down for 15-hour sessions but every strand of hair matters so we are just taking it really slow.”

A Met Gala Legacy
While getting ready for the fashion event, Kim opened up about attending for the ninth time. “That is really crazy. I couldn’t pee in half of them [or] couldn’t see. This I can’t even walk, sweat or breathe. If one little stone falls off, I will have to pay millions of dollars,” she said. “No one can touch me. Because if someone touches me and gets their oils on the dress — it is too risky.”

Honoring Her Commitment
“All of this — the losing the weight, dyeing my hair for 30 hours, leaving my hotel in a robe and getting there to change on the red carpet — it is all for 10 minutes of my life on the red carpet,” Kim told her glam team ahead of the Met Gala.
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum also reflected on the potential public backlash, adding, “I am a little nervous some people will hate [me in the dress] and will say, ‘How dare she think she can step into Marilyn’s dress?’ And I get that.”
