5 Fall Color Trends You’re About to See Everywhere
From lush greens to sky blues, the season’s palette is a rich blend.
The feeling of a fresh fall wardrobe is unmatched. Much like the first day of school, it’s embedded with new possibilities of who we can be, thanks to our closet staples. To aid that refresh, a new color palette emerges, leaving behind the saturated hues of summer that feel outdated come September.
Yet, if the grays and blacks of seasons past have jaded your feelings toward fall, this year’s palette is sure to jumpstart your enthusiasm. On the fall/winter 2024 runways, designers flexed their inner colorists, experimenting with a rich blend of dark and bright colors that subvert our expectations for fall. From Prada’s light blue bet and Ferragamo’s red wine looks, to Saint Laurent’s sandy tones and Chloé’s lush green capes, there’s something for everyone to choose from as they compile their fall mood boards.
As the leaves turn and temperatures cool, it’s time for fashion to take a chromatic twist. Ahead, we’ve listed five color trends that everyone will be wearing this fall, according to the runways.
Red Wine
Scarlet tones have been trending for a few seasons now. And for fall 2024, designers, including Saint Laurent, Gucci, and Ferragamo, bet big on more wine-colored tones that reflect the season’s mood. While it may be tempting to go for pops of wine red this fall, the runways revealed the best way to wear this color is to make a big statement from head-to-toe.
Sky’s the Limit
It’s not all moody this fall. The runways were filled with bright blue pieces, from Prada’s column dresses to Gucci’s quilted jackets and Chloé’s boho flowy dresses. The breezy, playful pop gave the fall runways a vibrant touch, styled with contrasting colors, like red and purple, as well as more neutral shades.
Almond Snack
Beige tones are a constant for fall. It’s safe to say a beige coat is as foundational to fall outfits as a plain white tee. Yet, it wasn’t all basic on the fall runways: Michael Kors’s head-to-toe camel take proved the hue can be made interesting for the office, while Versace did a spin on ’90s strapless mini dresses.
Lush Foliage
The leaves may change colors for fall, but this year’s color trends will have us dreaming of summer’s lush greenery. From Chloé’s dark green coats to Bottega Veneta’s olive-leaning handbags and skirts, there’s a gamut of options to explore nature this season.
That’s That Me Espresso
Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso has dominated 2024, and it’s no surprise that fashion is taking note for fall. Dark earthy and chocolate tones are a must-have for the season, and the runways showed there’s a myriad of ways to explore the trend. Whether it’s Courrèges asymmetrical dresses and knee-high boots or Miu Miu’s mini dresses and double-breasted coats, looking like a cup of espresso is fall’s everlasting mood.
