The Best Winter 2024 Fashion Trends
This season is all about daytime party clothes, oxblood office attire, and updated English country classics
Dreamy suedes, delicious brown separates, countryside plaids—the best winter 2024 trends are all about finding ways to indulge in warmth and texture during the dark (but festive!) days ahead. Below, we’ve taken inspiration from the Fall 2024 runway shows and resort 2025 collections to create an edit of our favorite looks for the next few months.
The collections for this season were full of ideas about how to update the classics, but they also tapped into a wrong-place-right-time styling approach. Tory Burch suggested tinsel-like fabrics for daywear, Chloé re-sparked our love of plaid, Miu Miu made a powerful case for dark brown, and Valentino proved that leopard print (and animal prints in general) is here to stay.
Below, I’ve shopped out the nine best resort 2025 and winter 2024 trends, with everything from the essentials I’m already wearing to the statement splurges that will simply bring you joy.
Scarf Necklines
Scarf coats have been trending since the beginning of fall, and now designers are tapping into this dreamy neckline for sweaters (like at Jil Sander) and blouses (like at Kallmeyer.) These tops and coats will look polished when paired with monochromatic pants, but feel coolest with a pair of black or cream jeans and boots.
Festive Daywear
Who says going to work this winter can’t feel like a party—at least when it comes to dressing up? Embellished skirts at Tory Burch and tinsel scarves at Dries Van Noten are meant to be worn during the daylight hours, spark the ultimate in holiday cheer.
Boho Goes Countryside
Chloé had us all wearing bohemian ruffles this fall, but that’s more of a warm-weather phenomenon. In colder temperatures, the boho girl tends to reach for English countryside pieces like the brand’s oversized wool cape-like coat in plaid. Complete the look with a Fair Isle sweater or a cozy cable knit and a pair of sturd
Minimalist Accessories
Make the effort of buying these once, and you’ll reap the benefits all winter long. From Khaite’s leather gloves that layer beautifully with white shirting to the leather belts at Toteme that finished off pencil skirt and trouser looks, the best winter accessories trend is simplicity.
Suede! Corduroy! Velvet!
Wardrobe staples in rich, deeply textured fabrics are so back. What’s more luxurious than an oversized blazer in suede? (Thank you, Mrs. Prada.) For a modern take on velvet, Valentino and Saint Laurent made skirts and bags in sumptuous winter-friendly colors. And don’t forget about corduroy, also known as the pinstripe of winter, which, makes for the perfect elongated trouser.
Shearling Maxi Coats
The runways were full of long shearling coats in light colors—an update to the aviator styles we’d been seeing as of late. Wrap yourself in one for a perfect winter white look, and if you want to take it all the way, try a pair of towering white boots like the ones at Proenza Schouler.
Chocolate Brown
This time last year I couldn’t stop talking about the takeover of dark brown bags. This season, the color has come for our ready-to-wear wardrobes too, thanks to Miu Miu’s first look from the Fall 2024 show. Crisp winter coats, rich suede bags, really every garment you can imagine—you can find it all in the chicest shade of cocoa.
Animal Prints All Over
Our animal instincts are taking the lead this season with a range of prints from leopard (a new neutral!) to snakeskin. Command attention in a pair of zebra pants, or try a bag inspired by the big cat family to add some excitement to a more minimal look.
Wine-Colored Office Attire
It’s happy hour at work this winter with tailored separates, leather-inspired trench coats, and bomber jackets in a rich shade of Bordeaux. Make a statement with footwear by pairing oxblood-colored loafers and straight-leg trousers—just add gray socks to break up the look and keep you warm when the temperatures drop.
