10 ATHLETIC-INSPIRED PIECES TO MIX INTO YOUR SUMMER WARDROBE
While retailers have gone nuts rushing to get in on the “athleisure” surge in recent seasons — in other words, designing stylish workout clothing that can be worn outside the gym — the aesthetic has invaded the runway at the same time. There are so many designer examples to name, Alexander Wang being perhaps the most notable, with his spring collection entirely devoted to sneakerheads (see also his H&M collaboration).
Although the newness of the sports-inspired fashion trend has waned, athletic elements are still popping up on everything from relaxed pants to tennis-style skirts and mesh tops. The key now is to layer these sportier pieces with sleeker ones — such as oxford shirts, tailored blazers or delicate heels — and incorporate textures like mesh and neoprene. The resulting looks are fresh and modern, not to mention comfortable.
