Oprah Wishes Jennifer Lopez a Happy 50th Birthday with a Special Message
These two go way back.
Today, Jennifer Lopez turns 50. And all summer long, OprahMag.com has been commemorating the multi-hyphenate’s milestone by counting down with 50 Days of J.Lo, a celebration of the woman who’s shown us all by example how to be ageless—inside and out. Happy Birthday, Jennifer Lopez!
- Jennifer Lopez has been celebrating her birthday all summer long with her “It’s My Party” tour—and today, she turns 50 years old.
- Oprah shared a special birthday wish for J.Lo with OprahMag.com—here’s what she had to say.
Since she kicked off her career by starring in Selena in 1997, Jennifer Lopez hasnot slowed down. She’s still releasing hit songs, starring in fan-favorite movies, and killing it on stage, most recently during her nationwide “It’s My Party” tour. So it’s very hard to believe—especially when you look at that body!—but J.Lo is officially50 years old.
The entertainer has been performing around the country since June leading up to her big day—and now that her milestone has arrived, our very own O of O wanted to share a special birthday wish for Lopez.
“Happy birthday Jennifer!” Oprah says in a video shot at her home in Hawaii. “The 50s are everything you’ve been meaning to be!”
Oprah and Lopez go way back. Over 25 years of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Lopez was a frequent guest, appearing on the O of O‘s couch seven times. The pair bonded over everything from the downsides of fame (in 2004, Lopez told Oprah the media had made a “soap opera” out of her life), to their “bottoms”—1999 speak for “booties.” (Thatthrowback clip is a must-watch, trust us.)
She even once admitted to Oprah that she prefers being called Jennifer to J.Lo and that she was never afraid of falling out of that now infamous plunging green Versace dress. And who can forget this lyric from “Jenny from the Block?”, J.Lo’s most iconic song? “I’m real, even on Oprah.” (And despite common debate, that isreally what she says—not “I really been on Oprah.” We even checked the album’s lyric notes!)
Of course, Oprah knows a thing or two about ringing in the big 5-0 with a bang. In 2004, The Oprah Winfrey Show team—plus Oprah’s BFF Gayle King—threw a surprise party for their namesake on the air. The special episode had an audience filled with her friends and family and included a special appearance and toast from John Travolta, who brought Oprah to tears while toasting her milestone with champagne. Even Gayle drank some!
We’re sure that J.Lo’s 50th celebration—reportedly taking place tonight in Miami—will be just as epic. Watch Oprah’s birthday message for Lopez here—and tell us what you learned when you turned 50—or hope to learn!—in the comments below.
