Warriors Earn Gritty Road Win Over Knicks on Second Night of Back-to-Back

The Warriors pulled off a double-digit comeback on the second night of a road back-to-back, defeating the Knicks 114-102 at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. The Dubs outscored the Knicks by 20 points in the second half in the win and improve to 9-1 with Jimmy Butler in the lineup, 3-1 on this road trip. Stephen Curry is now 12-1 against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden — his only loss coming in 2014 despite a 54-point masterpiece.

BUTLER’S THIRD QUARTER JAMS
Jimmy Butler scored nine of his 19 points in the third quarter, including a pair of consecutive momentum-shifting dunks. First, he cut backdoor for a slam and on the following possession, he followed up a missed layup for a two-hand put back jam. Butler shot 6-for-12 from the field and all of his made field goals came from inside the arc.

CURRY’S MSG TAKEOVER
Stephen Curry was questionable heading into the game after tweaking his ankle, but he wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to play in front of the bright New York lights. Curry has had loads of success at Madison Square Garden and his stellar play continued Tuesday, as he scored 20 of his team-high 28 points in the second half. Curry hit two huge threes in the fourth quarter, including a heavily contested splash over a double team and a dagger trey from the left wing. The showman put a little extra on both of his post-splash celebrations, breaking out the shimmy and shoulder shrug. He added six rebounds and nine assists and was a plus-23 in 33 minutes.

Among the Greats: Stephen Curry Has Made Madison Square Garden His Playground

Curry Has 10 Straight Wins in the Garden, the Longest Active Winning Streak in the Building

Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and James Harden. What do all these players have in common? In addition to being all-time great players with numerous career accolades, all of these players have scored at least 50 points as visitors at Madison Square Garden. Madison Square Garden is one of the oldest and most famous arenas in sports, often referred to as the “mecca” of basketball and the home of the New York Knicks. On Tuesday, Curry played his 13th NBA game in the building and scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half en route to his 10th straight win —giving him the longest active winning streak at Madison Square Garden.

“This is a place that naturally has great, unique, authentic basketball energy,” Curry said of playing in the Garden. “The fans are unreal. There are tons of celebrities in celebrity row — everybody is anticipating great basketball and it’s always delivered.”

Curry has consistently delivered on this stage, owning the highest Garden winning percentage among players who have played at least 10 games and averaged at least 10 points (92.3%). He has a 12-1 record and in his lone loss, he joined the exclusive 50-point club with 54 points and a Garden record 11 3-pointers on Feb. 27, 2014. Speaking of 3-pointers, Curry became the NBA’s all-time leader in made threes in the Garden on Dec. 14, 2021. On March 4, 2024, Curry eclipsed Vince Carter for the most made 3-pointers by a visiting player in the history of the building (65) despite having played in 17 fewer games. He is shooting 48.9 percent from behind the arc over that span, which is the third-highest mark among players with at least 50 attempts.

Curry hit two clutch threes in the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s win, including a heavily contested triple over a double team and a dagger trey from the left wing. A star amongst stars, Curry entertained the Garden crowd following his clutch buckets by shimmying and pump-faking his signature ‘Night Night’ celebration with a shoulder shrug before officially putting the Knicks to sleep.

Amidst a tight seeding battle in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race, Curry and the Warriors ended the night with their most important stat — another win in the column and in sole possession of sixth place. Since winning All-Star Game MVP at Chase Center, Curry has averaged the fourth-most points in the league (28.4 PPG) and led the Warriors to a 6-1 record — tied for the third-best record in the league over that span. They will continue to lean on his greatness down the stretch as they seek to avoid the Play-In Tournament.

CURRY’S MASTERFUL PLAYMAKING
Stephen Curry dished out a season-high 13 assists last game and was again a dynamic playmaker just two days later. Not even 20 minutes into the game, Curry had already tallied nine assists, one shy of his career-high in a half. Among his most memorable dimes was an alley-oop to Buddy Hield for a layup and a drive-and-kick for a Quinten Post corner three, which Curry celebrated before Post even released the ball. He finished with his eighth double-double of the season, tallying 21 points and 10 assists.

GREEN’S COMPLETE GAME
Draymond Green did a bit of everything for the Warriors, scoring 16 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, dishing out seven assists and nabbing two steals — he was a team-high plus-20 in 28 minutes. Green let out his signature “boom” celebration for both of his 3-pointers, including a fourth-quarter dagger. He has scored in double figures in five straight games and has five double-doubles this season.

WARRIOR TOUGHNESS
Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski and Gary Payton II were all nicked up during Monday’s game. Curry tweaked his ankle closing out to a jump shooter, Podziemski banged up his right knee on a floater and Payton incidentally knocked heads with LaMelo Ball. Curry and Podziemski both played through their collisions, while Payton is hopefull he’ll be able to play in Tuesday’s game.
